If you are about to wind up your 20s and all set to hit the 30s, then here’s a checklist of things for you to tick off.
Our lives keep changing immensely as we grow old and there are a lot of things that we miss out due to lack of planning. We often become reluctant to prioritize things. While we survive our 20s in shaping our career and figuring out what exactly we want to be, the post 30 phase seems to be more difficult as one has to grow more responsible and take life a little more seriously.
- MAKE YOUR FAMILY TREE.
There is no history more interesting than your own–figure out who your ancestors were and how they impacted the world and your own life. What you find out might surprise you.
Take it a step further and record your family’s complete medical history. This will not only come in handy for you, but for future generations as well.
- LEARN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE.
Imagine how fancy it would be if you can speak French or Spanish fluently! Learning a new language is always a good thing, and it’ll surely make you a more charming person. Knowing a different language will also familiarize you with the different cultures associated with that particular language, open several doors for you to explore and make you a more open-minded person. -
TAKE THE RISK AND TRY THE ADVENTURE SPORT YOU’VE ALWAYS THOUGHT TO AVOID.
Shed your fears and feel the adrenaline rush. Whether it is bungee jumping, diving with the sharks or skydiving – go for it! Get outside, take the leap, put yourself in the hands of those trained professionals, and experience that exhilarating feeling. Life will seem to be much prettier after this experience and you’ll have amazing stories to share with your kids. -
LEARN HOW TO COOK.
I’m not saying you should aspire to be Chef Chi; just learn how to make a few fancy dishes for one of those special occasions. Knowing how to make Nigerian soups is a great recipe. They might come in handy sooner than you think. -
LEARN TO DRIVE.
There’s nothing like learning to drive. It will make you realize how dependent you are on other people’s sensibilities. Yes, you will definitely be terrified the first couple of times you pull out onto a main road, but it’s a skill best learnt whilst you’re young and less fearful. -
FORM YOUR POLITICAL OPINION.
We live in a politically turbulent time. It’s up to us to educate ourselves and advocate for what we believe in.
Many people shy away from political discussions but by having them, you’ll come out with new, more well-rounded knowledge and, hopefully, will get to know your own opinions better.
- READ ONE BOOK EVERY WEEK.
Having a proper reading habit will take you a long way, and make sure you finish reading all those books on your bucket list before you hit your 30s. Reading has several benefits like boosting your imagination, improving your communication skills, keeping your brain sharp and it’ll also help you learn about new things and become a more knowledgeable person. -
RUN A MARATHON AND START TAKING CARE OF YOUR HEALTH.
Pushing yourself physically is not only good for your body but good for your mind. And plus, you’ll feel really awesome with your medal.
We’re capable of far more than we think we are — and this is your chance to prove it to yourself!
And even if these extreme physical fitness activities aren’t your thing, consider improving your life in other areas of wellness. For example, getting a good night’s sleep every night makes a world of difference.
- START A BUSINESS.
A lot of people commit to a corporate career as soon as they start working, but later they realize they would rather be running their own projects.
Give it a go while you live with your parents, have fewer bills, and more spare time to commit to your own projects. Try it while the opportunity is still there and find out if that’s a life you want for yourself.
- START INVESTING.
This is a risk in itself. Learn enough to invest some money or have someone else do it for you. No risk, no reward. You will ultimately reap a lot of benefits from your investments in the years to come, affording you the luxury to be comfortable in your forties, fifties and sixties. So go ahead, invest wisely and live the good life!
Cheers!
