Its been a week of back and forth on the issue of respect, involving Nobel Laureate; Wole Soyinka and another Nigerian who had to claim his window seat when the professor took over it aboard a plane. Nigerians on social media have aired their view, as some support the move by the young Nigerian, while others think he was disrespectful.
In a reaction to this, Wole Soyinka’s son; Olaokun Soyinka, wrote an open letter, addressing it to Tonye Cole, who made the matter public on social media. On Twitter, he said;
“So my elderly father mistakenly sat in the wrong airplane seat, & moved when asked. It was a non-event until Mr Tonye Cole did an Instagram post about respect. I thought I’d write to Mr Cole & share a memory about WS & an airline drama when he was shown great respect indeed.
