Onnoghen: Senate Withdraws Case From Supreme Court

The Nigerian Senate has withdrawn the case it filled at the Supreme Court against the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen by President Buhari.

Special Adviser to the Senate President, Mr Yusuph Olaniyonu revealed this in a statement on Monday.

He said the decision was made after the National Judicial Council intervened in the matter and the confidence in the body to credibly resolve the matter.

The NJC had on Tuesday last week, given Onnoghen and Muhammed seven days to respond to the allegations against them.

Justice Walter Onnoghen was suspended by President Buhari who said he did so on the recommendation of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) where Onnoghen was facing trial alleged false declaration of asset. The President also swore in Justice Tanko Muhammed as the acting Chief Justice of he Nigeria.

Four days after the move, the Saraki led senate filled a case at apex court to challenge the President’s move as unconstitutional.
