UK Prime Minister, Theresa May has survived a bid to remove her government from power after winning a no confidence vote by 325 to 306, a slim margin of 19.

This comes 24 hours after MP’s rejected her Brexit plan by a record margin. After the vote on the deal, Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn said that May had lost the right to govern and called for a vote of no confidence.

she has the DUP party to thank for her victory. Had the party’s 10 members voted against her, she would have lost by one vote and would have been expected to relinquish 10, Downing street. All other opposition parties voted against her.

After the result, she said she would “continue to work to deliver on the solemn promise to the people of this country to deliver on the result of the referendum and leave the European Union”.

Regarding the brexit plan, she called on all parties to work together to “find solutions that are negotiable and command sufficient support in this House,” she added.

Corbyn, who called the no-confidence vote asked the Prime Minister to rule out a no-deal Brexit

“The government must remove clearly, once and for all, the prospect of the catastrophe of a no-deal exit from the EU and all the chaos that would come as a result of that,” he said.

Mr Corbyn himself is under pressure from his own party to now support a second referendum on the EU.

Many in the opposition wants a reassurance from May and Corbyn that another referendum should be on the table, and not ruled out entirely.
