Premier League clubs have agreed in principle to introduce the Video Assistant Referees (VAR) in the league starting from the 2019/2020 season.
Key learnings and protocol for the use and implementation of VAR was communicated to clubs at a shareholders’ meeting on Thursday. The Premier League is is also trying to develop a clear protocol for communicating VAR decisions to fans.
The Premier League has said that its non-live testing programme will remain in place for the rest of the current season.
VAR has been used in the FA. Cup and Carabao cup.
The league will now formally make a request to the International Football Association Board and FIFA for the use of VAR next season.
VAR was used at the last World Cup in Russia.
