German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in a statement on Saturday insists that the people responsible for the death of Journalist, Jamal Khashoggi “must be held responsible.”
Merkel condemned the death of the reporter and said the information given by Saudi Arabia is insufficient.
“We expect transparency from Saudi Arabia regarding the circumstances of the death and its background,” they statement said.
“The available information on the events in the Istanbul consulate is insufficient,” Merkel said.
Merkel also said that “nothing has been explained so far and we need to explain it.”
The German are also reviewing its arms sales to Saudi Arabia and may stop selling arms to the country if the later are unable to provide sufficient explanations for the death of the journalist.
Khashoggi had gone to the Saudi consulate in Turkey for divorce papers and hasn’t been seen since then. Turkish officials were the first to accuse the Saudis of killing the reporter, something Saudi Arabia denied then and said he walked out of the consulate.
They later baxcktracked and said he he was murdered by rogue agents who were not acting on orders.
But yesterday, they changed the story and said Khashoggi was involved in a fistfight with operatives in the consulate.
