The disappearance of Saudi national journalist, Jamal Khashoggi has received growing outcry against the Saudis who are accused of killing him.
Khashoggi was last seen on October 2, 2018 when he went to Istanbul and entered the Saudi consulate to obtain documents that would seal his marriage to his Turkish fiancée, Hatice Cengiz.
According to Turkish government, Khashoggi was murdered in the consulate by a 15-man assassination team that arrived on two planes. This the Saudi government has dismissed claiming that Khashoggi left the consulate safely.
His fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, who was waiting outside confirms that she did not see him come out of the consulate.
Turkish President Recep Erdogan has challenged the Saudi Government to provide CCTV footage of the journalist leaving the consulate just as the others left to back up their report.
“Is it possible there were no camera systems in a consulate, in an embassy?” he asked.
“If a bird flew, or a fly or a mosquito appeared, the systems would capture this; they (Saudi Arabia) have the most cutting-edge systems.”
The Saudis however holds that CCTV cameras weren’t functioning on the day Khashoggi disappeared.
Turkish authorities claim they have video and audio that proves Khoshoggi was murdered inside the consulate.
International pressure has been mounted on Saudi Arabia to explain what happened to Khashoggi, a former Saudi royal insider who became a critic of the regime and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is known as MBS.
Also, the United Nations have expressed concerns over his continuous disappearance to their Saudi contacts urging them to provide information.
According to Jason Rezaian, a colleague of Khashoggi, “despite his criticisms of his homeland, Jamal consistently expressed his love for it and his desire to return, always reiterating his belief that Saudi Arabia could and would do better,” Reza
