Inspector Charles Omotosho, a police officer attached to the Ipakodo-Ikorodu station of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Square (FSARS), has been sacked after extorting the sum of N5000 from a road user in May.
While Omotosho was dismissed, three other accomplice were punished as their ranks were reduced from Sergeant to Corporal by the Nigeria Police.
Omotosho dismissal is coming three months after a Twitter user by the name Ifeoluwa Adegoke claimed that Omotosho had threatened to shoot him and others, except they paid a ‘ransom’ of N5000.
“With my encounter today, it is safe to say SARS are armed robbers. Was going for a shoot in Ikorodu today and armed member of SARS pulled us over and made us pay for no reason,” Adegoke tweeted.
“Threatening they were going to waste our lives. I made a transfer so that they can be traced.”
In response to the allegation, the Inspector General of police, Ibrahim Idris ordered the Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) of the Police Force, to investigate the case and make the findings public.
Omotosho was found guilty after investigations. He was “found guilty of Corrupt Practices and Discreditable Conduct contrary to Para. C (ii) and E (iii) of Police Act and Regulations CAP. P19 LFN 2004” and was consequently dismissed.
