After near universally accusation for treason levelled on him aftermath of his speech at Helsinki during the meeting with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, US. President, Donald Trump has backed down and finally accepted Russian interference in the US election in 2016.
“I accept our intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election took place. Could be other people also. A lot of people out there,” Trump said, reading mostly off a sheet of paper, before a meeting with Republican members of Congress at the White House.
“There was no collusion at all,” he added, dismissing the notion that his campaign coordinated with Moscow in 2016.
He also accepted his mistake in the speech and looked to do damage control by insisting he made a mistake by saying “would” instead of “wouldn’t”

The sentence should have been, ‘I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be Russia.’ Sort of a double negative,”
“So you can put that in, and I think that probably clarifies things pretty good by itself.”
In his speech at the summit, Trump not only accused the US. Intelligence agencies of destroying the country’s relationship with Russia, but also alluded that the world wanted to see himself and Putin get along.
He said: “I really think the world wants to see us get along. We are the two great nuclear powers. We have 90% of the nuclear – and that’s not a good thing, its a bad thing. I think we can hopefully do something about that because it is not a positive force, it is a negative force so we’ll be talking about that among other things.”
