OSCARS 2021: The NOSC Submits “The Milk Maid” As Nigeria’s Pick
The Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee (NOSC) has picked ‘The Milkmaid’ as the country’s submission to the International Feature Film (IFF) category of the 2021 Oscars. The NOSC is headed by a filmmaker, Chineze Anyaene-Abonyi.
The movie was selected by the 12-member NOSC, after following and meeting the prescribed procedures by the Academy, in relation to further determination by the IFF Executive Committee.
‘The Milkmaid’ is a Hausa thriller that centers on insurgency, most importantly how it affects women and children in Sub-Saharan Africa. The movie was written, produced and directed by Desmond Ovbiagele and was inspired by the image on Nigeria’s N10 note.
The movie which is currently showing in cinemas nationwide, tells the story of a Fulani milkmaid who confronts extremists in a rural African community and how she eventually embarked on a quest to rescuing her missing sister.
The NOSC announced that it received several entries while six movies sailed through the first vetting exercise. The final six films are: ‘Sanitation Day”, ‘Voiceless’, ‘Oloture’, ‘Ibi’ (The Birth), ‘The Milkmaid’ and ‘Eyimofe’.
