Expelling Pregnant Girls From School Becomes Illegal In Zimbabwe
It is now illegal for schools in Zimbabwe to dismiss girls on the ground of pregnancy. This is to tackle gender inequality in Zimbabwe’s education system.
This was revealed by the Education Minister, Cain Mathema in a recent submission with Reuters. In his submission, he said;
“I’m expecting every parent and guardian and everyone else to understand that every child must be assisted by all of us to go to school.
Every child whether boy or girl… has a right to go to school in Zimbabwe.”
This has also called for a reaction from Sibusisiwe Ndlovu who is the specialized authority at Plan International Zimbabwe. Ndlovu said;
“This amendment is crucial in fulfilling the access to education right for all children – especially girls.”
