Nigerians have taken to Twitter to express their opinions on the shocking news revealed by Shoprite as they prepare to exit the Nigerian market after 15 years.
According to a Twitter user, he believes that many issues have led to the exit of the South Africa’s grocery market which ranges from political bottlenecks, chaotic business strains associated with doing business in Nigeria and staff theft. See his tweet below:
Asides the political bottlenecks & chaotic business strains associated with doing business in Nigeria, one other silent contributing factor why Shoprite is closing down, is staff theft. In 2017 alone, a sales girl stole N553M, one month after securing the job. There are many.

Another Twitter user has Buhari to blame, as he links it with the inability of the Buhari-led administration to pay the required N30,000 minimum wage due to the prospective excuse of the Covid-19 pandemic. See his tweet below:
Finally, the Buhari inefficiency has fingered Shoprite;like everything else. The silence from the 30k a month crew is cos they are right now in their WhatsApp group waiting for talking-points on how to spin this one.Let me give them a key:blame it on Covid. The GEJ angu is stale.

Another Twitter user is quite worried about how Shoprite workers who get retrenched from this exit will feed. He comes to the conclusion that only the strong hearted will survive in this country. See his tweet below:
As Shoprite is leaving Nigeria, a lot of Shoprite workers will remain unemployed, most won’t get a new job anytime soon, how will a married man feed his family?
Only the strong hearted survives in this country tbh.
