THE EFFECTS OF SOCIAL DISTANCING ON THE RAMADAN FAST
The Annual Ramadan fast was quite different this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the existence of social distancing guidelines which restricted religious meetings in the mosques. Thus, the usual iftar meals usually eaten in the mosques is now being eaten at home. Also, prayers that were conducted in the mosques is now being conducted at home.
One of the purposes of the Ramadan fast is to make sure that the relationships between Muslim faithfuls are strengthened and also because they can be moved to give alms to one another. However, the physical connection between people has been restricted due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Thus, Muslims are only left with the social media platforms to enforce connection and strengthen relationships during the fast.
