Plaqad’s Gbenga Sogbaike Joins Other Media Experts as Panelist at NIPR Week 2019

Plaqad’s CEO, Gbenga Sogbaike joined a number of communications and media experts as panellists at this year’s edition of NIPR Week. Speaking on ‘Harnessing The Synergy Between PR & Digital Influence’, the session revealed the need for the Nigerian Public Relations industry to leverage digital media as an effective tool for professional practices.

Also on the panel were  JJ Omojuwa; Public Speaker, Political Commentator and Social Media Expert, Omotola Oyebanjo; Head Corporate Communications Lafarge, Tosin Ajibade; New Media Entrepreneur and Digital Content Strategist, Bidemi Zakariyau, Founder and CEO LSF PR, and Bunmi Adeleye; Head Corporate Services, Leadway Assurance Company Limited.

The speakers addressed the need for the industry to upscale their practices. Practitioners must seek to continually develop their skills and keep up-to-date with tools that will help to promote professional excellence.

In addition to this, they also brought to light the fact that PR has evolved from being solely traditional to become integrated. Public relations today is about synergy this means understanding the different media tools available today and making effective use of them.

Speaking at the event, Gbenga said,

“PR has evolved from being traditional to become integrated, digital is a part of this integration. The world has become a global village and technology is the future, this includes the digital space. The truth is, digital has not come to replace PR, rather, they complement each other. It is important that we leverage tech to connect with the people and remain relevant in the years to come. There is a need for the old to accept and blend with the new. It is by this that innovation is birthed.”

Buttressing his point, Motola Oyebanjo, Head Corporate Communications Lafarge Africa, said,

“The importance of upscaling in this day and age cannot be overemphasized. PR practitioners in Nigeria should continue to improve themselves and improve their craft. They should also understand the new and use it to their advantage by developing the industry. This way we can truly harness the synergy between PR and digital.”

Established in 1963, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), is the non-governmental, not-for-profit professional body of qualified Public Relations practitioners chartered by Decree 16 of June 1990 (now an Act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria) to regulate the practice and direct the development of Public Relations as a profession in Nigeria.
