Bayern Go Five-Points Clear At The Summit Of The Bundesliga
Bayern Munich have gone five-points clear at the top of the Bundesliga after a 3-1 win over bottom club, Hanover on Saturday.
Bayern’s veteran wingers, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, both of whom are set to leave Bayern at the end of the season, came off the bench with the later scoring to help seal the win, which was made more important after Borussia Dortmund drew away to Werder Bremen on Saturday.
Robert Lewandowski headed the champions in front after initial resistance from the visitors, before Leon Goretzka curled the second in off the post.
Hannover pulled one back through a Jonathas penalty, after a controversial hand ball decision against Jerome Boateng.
Ribery sealed the victory with six minutes to go to make Bayern almost sure of retaining their title.
Robben, who had not played since November, said this was not going to be his last appearance for the club.
“I always said I didn’t want to come back just to wave to the fans and say goodbye. There are two games left and the German Cup final, so there is more to come,” he said.
