Petr Cech Calls Out Bayer Leverkuson Over Tweet Mocking His Passing

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech, who was criticised for his distribution in Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City, has responded to a troll by the official English twitter account of Bayer Leverkuson.

Cech almost scored an own goal while trying to pass from the back and received immediate backlash from the football community, most especially Arsenal fans. The reaction prompted a response from the Leverkuson account who sold Leno, their former number one to Arsenal in the Summer.

Their tweet suggested Arsenal should have started Leno, who was on the bench for the match.

The tweet didn’t go down well with Arsenal fans, and obviously Cech, who responded:

“At Arsenal, we share important values which make us a big club not only on the football side . Fair competition, professionalism and sportsmanship are the biggest ones you teach young footballers and it’s sad to see when other clubs don’t share the same values. .

The Bayer account has since apologised and said it was just “banter”:

“Hi Petr. It seems our joke about wanting to see Leno, our former player, in action has been taken a bit more harshly/personally than intended. It was only a bit of banter. We’re all for the values you’ve stated and wish you and your big club all the best. Nice 1v1 save on Aguero!”
