Exercise and Your Hair

Want rich, fuller, healthier hair? Add exercise to the list of hair growth regiment. Exercise is one of the most important ingredient for beautiful hair, asides eating healthy, drinking lots of water, using more natural products and oil massages. If you don’t have any underlying medical condition and your hair isn’t as beautiful as it should be then you might want to try out exercising.

You wonder what has exercise got to do with growing my hair? Exercise not only benefits the body but the hair as well. Exercising daily should be the goal. You don’t have time for it and are tired most days, you can try a brisk walk on your way home or around the block.


Exercise helps the hair in the following ways:

  1. When exercising, you sweat. This sweat helps flush out toxins and waste substances from the skin pores. This gives a radiant skin. Same goes for the hair, when we sweat as a result of exercising, you sweat on the scalp. This sweat helps flush out toxins in your hair follicles, thus unclogging them and giving enough space for new hair to grow.
  2. It increases blood flow to your muscles, skin and scalp. This increased blood flow nourished the hair roots as it brings with it more nutrients and oxygen. This in turn leads to healthy hair growth.

So you see, while it brings out all the toxin in the scalp, it also nourishes the scalp leading too healthier, richer and fuller hair.

Not doing enough exercise not only affects the state of your internal and physical being but your hair as well. Do exercise not just for doing sake but with an aim in heart. Exercising helps reduce stress and we all know that stress is one of the unavoidable facts of life nowadays. So break a sweat. Stress leads to your body releasing the stress hormone which not only affects your body but your hair as well. Have you noticed your hair thinning or falling out? You just might need more exercise. Exercising increases the happiness hormone in the body. High levels of this hormone can help improve the way we deal with stress, and lower the presence of the stress hormone in the body. Regular exercise promotes hair growth and keeps you glowing.

Now there are a little downsides of exercising on your hair, but its benefits far outweigh the downsides. The sweat can actually turn it into a tangled mess, yes, but you can manage this while you work out. You can brush it a bit before working out, use dry shampoo on it, pack it in a loose bun, especially if you want to do vigorous exercise which will get you really sweaty. Take care while brushing/combing out your slightly damp hair after your workout. This notwithstanding, exercise is still great for your hair.
