Manchester United sign Borussia Dortmund Star
United have reported signed another player in a space of three days after they confirmed the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer.
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed Henrikh Mkhitaryan has moved to Manchester United.
Armenia international Mkhitaryan is set to become new United boss Jose Mourinho’s third signing, following the £30m capture of Villarreal defender Eric Bailly and the free transfer of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Dortmund had previously insisted Mkhitaryan was not for sale, but after rejecting United’s opening offer of £19m, they have accepted the improved bid for a player with only one year left on his contract.
Having already lost Mats Hummels to Bayern Munich and with star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in demand from Europe’s top clubs, Dortmund were reluctant to wave goodbye to another key man this summer.
But with Mkhitaryan entering the final year of his deal, Dortmund simply could not turn down such a lucrative offer, with United having effectively forced their hand with their enhanced bid.
Dortmund chief-executive Hans-Joachim Watzke had earlier said a decision would be made this week on Mkhitaryan’s future, with the Bundesliga club ready to accept United’s latest offer.
“We will assess his situation this week,” said Watzke. “We need to discuss it. It’s a difficult decision.”
Mkhitaryan moves to United in time to take part in pre-season with training set to begin on July 6.
