A deadly attack by gunmen suspected to have crossed into Ethiopia from South Sudan has left 208 people dead. The attack on Friday was said to be a cattle raid in the Gambela region- a region which has witnessed such attacks on a smaller scale previously.
The gunmen reportedly made away with 2,000 head of livestock in the devastating attack.
The most worrying aspect of Friday’s attack was the abduction of 100 children as government officials said 60 of the attackers were killed by Ethiopian forces.
A government spokesman has said Ethiopian forces are prepared to cross into South Sudan to capture the attackers. “Ethiopian Defence Forces are taking measures. They are closing in on the attackers,”
It remains unclear if any of the abducted children have been rescued as South Sudan authorities refused to comment on the attack.
