Since inception, the AMVCA are a closely guarded affair, with producers taking a wait-until-you-see-it approach to movies’ biggest night.
As we countdown to the biggest celebration of film and television talent in Africa, here’s a rundown of things you should know before the big night.
*Come Saturday the 5th of March 2016, the industry’s finest as well as notable personalities will gather in Nigeria’s commercial capital for the awards.
*The show is airing live from the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island Lagos, with ik Osakioduwa & South Africa’s media personality, Minnie Dlamini assuming hosting duties.
*Red carpet begins at 4:00pm and the main awards 7:00pm prompt.
*Africa Magic and MultiChoice in association with Amstel Malta created the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards to recognize and celebrate African film and TV talent.
*Gowns galore: The red carpet will be haute with fashion favorites, including nominees Genevieve Nnaji, Stephanie Linus, Mercy Aigbe, Ini Edo and Nse Ikpe-Etim.
*Couples to watch: Nollywood power couple Osas and Gbenro Ajibade should be the star of the night. Not forgetting Chris and Damilola Attoh,and a few others.
We’re also curious who Adesua Etomi, would bring to the event.
*The awards: A total of 26 awards will be handed out on the night, with each winner receiving prestigious AMVCA trophy.
*The nominees: Stephaine Linus ‘Dry’ and Genevieve Nnaji’s ‘Road to Yesterday’ lead the nominations with 7, including Best Overall Movie (Africa), Best Director, Best Movie – West Africa(Drama/comedy) and Best Sound Editor.
*Genevieve Nnaji’s ‘Road to Yesterday’ battle Stephanie Okereke’s ‘Dry’ for AMVCA Best Overall Movie award. The category which is dedicated to the best film in the continent has 7 nominations. Other movies in the category are ‘Freetown’, ‘Ayanda’, ‘Silverain’, ‘House Arrest’ and Akin Omotoso’s ‘Tell me something sweet’.
