An earthquake has hit the Indonesian region of Papua, 250km west of the provincial capital Jayapura. According to AFP, the 7.0 magnitude earthquake, a teenage boy is the only casualty reported so far as he fell into the river while swimming.
disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said. “The quake was felt very strongly for four seconds, Residents panicked and rushed out of their homes.”
Papue is a mountainous region which is not easily accessible and authorities have confirmed that a few buildings have been damaged in the aftermath of the earthquake.
