Idris Elba’s new Nelson Mandela biopic has landed another major screening – at the White House.
U.S. leader Barack Obama will host the cast of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom at a presidential screening later this week.
Elba and co-star Naomie Harris are set to attend along with Mandela’s daughters Zindzi and Zenani.
The movie officially opened in Johannesburg, South Africa at the weekend and was attended by Mandela’s former wife, Winnie.
The film’s world premiere took place at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival in Canada and it has also been selected as this year’s Royal Film Performance in London in December.
The news of the latest high-profile screening for the movie comes just two days after Elba, who portrays Mandela in the film, was forced to delay his arrival in South Africa for the premiere there on Saturday after suffering breathing difficulties prior to take-off at Heathrow Airport in London
