Today, October 11 is a day celebrated as the International Day of the Girlchild. The day aims at highlighting and addressing the needs and challenges girls face, as well as promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
This year’s International Day of the Girl (IDG) marks the beginning of a year-long effort to spur global attention and action to the challenges and opportunities girls face before, during, and after crises.
There are about 1.1 billion girls in the world and they are a source of power, energy, and creativity. These girls should be protected from the crisis, protected from emergency situations, protected from rape and prostitution, protected from illiteracy and forced marriages and protected from diseases.
Above all, girls all over the world should be celebrated and supported, not only on this day but every day.
