On the evening of Easter Sunday, March 31st, 2013, Dynamite Inc (made up of Funmi Fatona and Jennifer Okeakwa) put together aGroup Karaoke Battle at Swe Bar and Lounge in City Mall, Onikan, Lagos.
People had pre-registered to participate in the competition and were grouped in 6 teams named after music legends that had passed on. With a maximum of 6 members per team, #KaraokePulse were made up 36 participants spread across Teams Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, TuPac, Aaliyah and Bob Marley.
Young people from all works of life rocked the mic in front of a warm, interactive audience and celebrity judges such as the smooth crooner Praiz, vivacious radio and TV host Tosyn Bucknor, prolific music producer Ex_O and the ‘Ghen ghen babe’ Yemi Alade.
Performances of old school hits and recent pieces from these legends and other favored artistes in dramatic renditions inspired moments of laughter, nostalgia, applause and appreciation from both the audience and judges.
Team Bob Marley was judged to be the most entertaining and coordinated and so they won and went home with a bunch of awesome prizes. However, all teams, most especially Team TuPac, gave us a great show!
Members of the audience got to perform a few hits and win a few freebies too, just for showing up!
