Nigeria’s Super Eagles moved up nine places in the latest FIFA world rankings released yesterday, rising to 41st position but maintained their 7th position in Africa.
The most significant changes in the rankings were courtesy of matches played at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Cameroon’s victory at the tournament helped them climb 29 places into 33rd position while Egypt’s silver-medal finish secured them a place in the Top 25.
The Pharaohs are now the highest ranked CAF team.
AFCON semi-finalists Burkina Faso and Ghana also enjoyed large gains while quarter- finalists Congo DR, Morocco and hosts Gabon also have cause to celebrate.
Meanwhile, group E opponents of the Super Eagles’ in the 2019 Afcon qualifiers dropped in the ranking.
