Mr Trump was officially sworn in as president by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court yesterday January 20th, 2017. The president promised to “faithfully execute the office of the president” and “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” to rapturous applause from his supporters gathered below.
Trump was joined on the balcony of the US Capitol building by his family, the Obamas and, the Clintons, among other political leaders.
The ceremony commenced without a hitch, however Mr Trump’s ego endured some unflattering comparisons to Mr Obama’s first inauguration eight years ago. Noticeably, Mr Trump only managed to draw a third of Mr Obama’s 1.8 million crowd.
President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania danced at three inaugural balls, rounding off the historical day in which Mr Trump was officially sworn in as US President.
At the first ball they danced to the Frank Sinatra’s hit My Way, and were joined by Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Susan, as well as Trump family members.
Trump stated that first day as commander-in-chief was great.
Trump asked the crowd at the second of the three inaugural balls he’s attended whether he should “keep the Twitter going?” The crowd roared in apparent approval.
Trump also stated that his all-hours tweeting to his more than 20 million followers was “a way of bypassing dishonest media.”
He spoke with first lady Melania Trump by his side. She wore an ivory off-the shoulder column gown.
At the third ball the couple danced to I Will Always Love You with members of the armed services.
