128 Policemen Killed in the ‘Line of Duty’ in 3 months – IGP

Since the past three months, 128 men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force have been killed in line of duty due to unwar­ranted attacks by religious bigots, bandits, hoodlums and militants in different parts of the country.

This is even as sev­eral infrastructure and assets belonging to the police have also been destroyed in different parts of the country.

The Inspector Gener­al of Police (IGP), Ibra­him Idris, has therefore expressed deep concern over the development, stressing that it must be put to a stop.

While lamenting the loss of the men and of­ficers, the IGP said that the most recent de­struction of police in­frastructure and public asset include the ones in Dankamoji village in Maradu LGA of Zam­fara State, Abagana in Anambra State and in Okrika waterways in Rivers State where personnel were killed, arms carted away, struc­tures and equipment destroyed are cases in point.

The IGP, however, condoles with the fami­lies of the officers and assured them of the Force’s support to cush­ion the effect of the ir­reparable loss.

Idris, therefore, urged men and officers of the Force not to relent or be distracted. “In our col­lective will to serve this country, the costly chal­lenges notwithstand­ing.”

He also advised law abiding citizens to con­tinue to give the police the needed support and assistance.
