Six gunmen attacked a beach resort in Ivory Coast yesterday and opened fire on occupants.
Sixteen people have been confirmed dead in the attack which was ended by Ivorian soldiers minutes after the gunmen began shooting at the Grand Bassam resort. Two of the casualties were special forces soldiers.
All gunmen were killed by soldiers in an attack that Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for. The Grad Bassam resort town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is a popular destination in Ivory Coast.
Alassane Oauttarra visited the Grand Bassam afterwards and condemned the attacks, “I present my condolences to the families of the people who were murdered, and of course I am very proud of our security forces who reacted so fast,”
