This is the dramatic moment the Turkish president stopped on his way to Friday prayers and appeared to stop a suicidal man jumping from a bridge.
Recep Erdogan’s motorcade was crossing the Bosphorus Bridge – which connects Europe to Asia – yesterday when he made a sudden stop.
He got out along with his security detail and appeared to talk down the man who was clinging on to the outside railings.
After a few moments talking to Erdogan the man, who appeared to be in his 30s, kissed the President’s hand and was escorted to safety.
Local media reported police had been trying to help the man, who was suffering from depression, for several hours before the president intervened.
He has not been identified.
