Being the biggest music awards in Nigeria, the Headies aspires to extend its tentacles out of the country by considering music acts in other African countries who has commanded a reasonable amount of fans in Nigeria.

The non-Nigerian category for an individual African artiste or group with the most outstanding achievement, impact and contribution to Nigerian music market in the year under review.

This year’s category will have South African trio of Casper Nyovest, Uhuru and AKA Ghanaian star, Sarkodie and Tanzanian Diamond Platnumz

AFRIMA 2015 Nominee, Diamond Platnumz

Casper Nyovest: has greatly improved on his musical output to get recognized in this category he visited Nigeria severally to headline shows was hosted at Industry Nite a weekly event to celebrate music industry but he hasn’t done much collaboration with Nigerian artistes outside ‘the King is Here’ D’Banj featuring Reminisce and Casper.

Diamond Platnumz: The Tanzanian born star have the highest Nigerian affiliation in this category with collaborations from top Nigerian artistes like Davido, Iyanya, KCEE, Waje and many more. But we have our reservation for him as he revealed in a recent interview that he is tired of featuring Nigerian artistes.

Sarkordie: Arguably the best rapper on the continent has so much influence in Nigeria and has an Headies plaque to show for it as he went home with the award last year. But the year under review has not been Sarkodie’s year in Nigeria as his fans in the country didn’t see more of him.

Uhuru: The South African group place in this category is justified with collaborations from top Nigerian artists like Davido, Wizkid, Runtown, KCEE and many more they took a step further by producing some of Nigeria’s lovely tunes in the year under review. We feel he deserved the nomination.

Uhuru

AKA: The self-acclaimed South African finest rapper who has battled with Casper for the position is not a novice to the Nigerian market also as he was also hosted at the weekly industry nite and headlined some big shows in Nigeria.

Our Verdict:

Going by music output and contributions to the Nigerian market, it is a close one between Diamond Platnumz and Uhuru but we feel Diamond has more fans and pull better crowd in the country than Uhuru so we give it to him.
