A ceasefire in Yemen has begun as the Houthi rebels and the government have commenced peace talks in Switzerland.
A week long ceasefire has culminated in peace talks supervised by the United Nations in hopes of a more permanent solution to the crisis.
Houthi forces have squared up against forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh in a long drawn out war. Just a few weeks ago, a Governor in Yemen was killed in attacks by rebel forces.
Although previous efforts by the United Nations has failed to bring an end to the crisis, there is hope that the peace talks beginning today will end the violence in Yemen.
The war in Yemen has claimed well over 5,000 lives and even the Government’s support of Saudi Arabia hasn’t led to an end.
