Two Years On, South Sudan War Rages On

South Sudan descended into a war two years ago in seemingly innocuous circumstances after President Salva Kiir accused his one time deputy, Riech Machar of plotting a coup.

South Sudan, a newly independent country, gained their independence just in 2011 and the current war had forced over 1 million people to flee South Sudan.

Kiir and Machar have had forces loyal to them accused of rape and using child soldiers in a war that is nowhere on the verge of ending.

The United Nations has failed to provide any sort of solution to the crisis, failing to ensure that both parties to the conflict respect peace deals and cease fire agreements.

Eight peace pacts have been ignored by both parties in the long drawn war.
