Roch Marc Christian Kabore has been elected President of Burkina Faso.
Burkinabes went to the polls on Sunday in crucial elections seeking a replacement to exiled President, Blaise Compoare who had ruled for 27 years.
The election was particularly important for Burkina Faso’s democratic consolidation following an attempted coup in September by the Presidential guard.
Although 14 candidates contested the elections, former Prime Minister Christian Kabore who was Touted as a front runner garnered 53.5% of votes cast.
With over 50% of the votes, Kabore won the vote outright to avoid a second round of elections.
