This week on Throw Back Thursday, we feature Nigerian pop star Sidney Esiri, popularly known has Dr Sid. The multi-talented singer has grown since he first recorded his Debut hit Single “Don’t Stop” with Da Trybe Records back in 2003.
With his charming look, undeniable talent, and enthusiasm to be the best in the industry, Dr SID was not only a charming ladies man at age 23, but a rising star many believed would be comparable to some of the greatest entertainers we’ve known. Unfortunately that same year, he had to take a break from a promising career to complete his studies.
Fast forward to 2007, against all odds DR SID took a gamble that would later pay off. He mustard boldness and quit his practise as a dentist to concentrated fully on his music career by signing on to Don Jazzy’s Mo’Hits Records. His first studio album “Turning Point,” was produced by Don Jazzy, with hit tracks like “Something about You,” “Pop Something ft. D’Banj” and many more.
Following a fall out of the partners at Mo’ Hits Records, D’Banj and Don Jazzy, Dr SID pitched his tent with the multiple award winning producer and signed on to Mavin Records dropping hit tracks like the popular “Surulere” that rule the airwaves in 2013. The label now known as the Supreme Mavin Dynasty, has grown to become one of the biggest brands with artists like Tiwa Savage, D’Prince, Korede Bello, D’iJa and Reekado Banks signed to the label.
As the end of year approaches, Dr SID will join other label mates to set another record with a planned mother of all concert in partnership with Access Bank this December.
