The Romanian Prime Minister, Victor Ponta has resigned following demonstrations in Bucharest, the Romanian capital. The protests and demonstrations were as a result of a fire incident which occurred at a nightclub in Bucharest last week.
The fire incident at the Collectiv nightclub on October 30 claimed 30 lives and the people immediately demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister.
Ponta said in a statement today “I’m handing in my mandate, I’m resigning, and implicitly my government too,
“I hope the government’s resignation will satisfy the people who came out in the streets.”
