Barring any last minute changes, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is set to appoint Olamiju, the son of former Oyo Governor, Otunba Alao Akala as a commissioner in the state.
This is coming on the heels of the latest alliance between Ajimobi and Akala.
Akala, who contested the last governorship election in the state on the platform of Labour Party (after he failed in his bid to pick the ticket of PDP) has finally decided to team up with the APC.
According to CityScoop, Olamiju Akala’s name is already on the list of appointees the Governor will be sending to the house of assembly next week, after both Oyo gladiators met few days ago (after the latter’s return from a trip abroad) and finalised on the modalities of how they are going to work together.
Part of the deal agreed to is that Akala will be given some appointments in the state, his son’s commissioner appointment being one of them.
It was reported not too long ago, that Gov. Ajimobi felt it is important to work with Akala in order to deplete the strength of the opposition he may likely face in the state should Akala and Senator Rashidi Ladoja decide to team up. Now that Akala is tilting towards the APC, the likelihood of his teaming up with Ladoja may have been closed.
Apart from Commissioner slots, Akala will also get some slots in other appointments into key government agencies and parastatals in the state, we have gathered.
Our source could however not confirm whether Otunba Akala will publicly announce his movement to the APC anytime soon.
At the last guber election, Akala’s labour party won 6 house of assemble seats in the state, while the accord party won 8. the APC has 18 seats. With the new calculation, Governor Ajimobi will enjoy the support of the 6 lawmakers loyal to Akala, thereby stamping its party’s authority more on the assembly.
