Despite the ongoing screening of ministerial nominees, the Nigerian Senate has postponed its plenary session till Thursday.
Having had his suit to stop the Code of conduct tribunal trial against him indefinitely suspended, Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Senate President resumes his defense of the charges brought against him.
He is facing a thirteen count charge stemming from false declaration of assets. While the Senate President is on trial, the deputy Senate President can act in his stead and preside over the Senate.
However, the Senate has opted to go the circuitous route of suspending plenary instead. It is unclear if Thursday’s plenary will also be suspended if the Senate President’s trial continues till Thursday.
