President Muhammadu Buhari submitted a 21 man list of prospective senators earlier in the week.
If those who made the list were ecstatic at the prospect of a routine Senate screening before confirmation of their appointment, they certainly have another think coming.
The Senate has decided that each ministerial nominee must receive the endorsement of two Senators from their senatorial district.
Additionally, the nominees are expected to declare their assets.
The new rules will undoubtedly have Rotimi Amaechi worried. His nomination has already been petitioned by a senator from his district and it is doubtful that he will receive the needed endorsements.
Another nominee who might be affected is Former governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola.
Fashola and Amaechi have in recent times been accused of financial impropriety while they governed their respective States.
