The President of the Nigerian Senate can rest easy now that the Peoples Democratic Party has said that they will not abandon him in his time of need as he is facing charges at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Bukola Saraki is currently facing a 13-count charge at the CCT for making false declarations as Kwara state Governor between 2003 and 2011.
The National publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh has revealed that despite the pressure mounting from groups and labour unions for Saraki’s resignation from office, they would not take a position against Saraki unless they see merit.
“We have no candidate for the office of the Senate President, because we have a fit person occupying the position for now…We are behind him and we can’t abandon him just because he is undergoing trial. Anybody can be put on trial, but the question we should ask is whether the trial is political or not…Does the trial have merit? When we see the merit of the case, we will take position. But for now, there is nothing like that.” – Chief Olisa Metuh
