Yesterday, Graca Machel, widow of the late former South African President, Nelson Mandela, met with parents of the missing Chibok schoolgirls in Lagos.
Machel, who is a prominent child rights activist was in the country to attend an event organised by the Murtala Muhammed Foundation to support the parents of the missing girls as they deal with the trauma caused by the abduction.
In her speech to the parents, she said “I shook hands with all of you and feel what is in your blood… I share the pain with you of not knowing when the girls will come back.” She urged them to remain strong and hopeful because the world has not forgotten about the girls.
Meanwhile, a BBC report says, Seventeen of the girls’ parents have died since their abduction.
