Super Eagles goalkeeper and long serving captain, Vincent Enyeama has reportedly retired from the Nigerian National team.
Enyeama, one of the pillars of the National team reached 101 caps for Nigeria and is widely regarded as the most influential Nigerian player in the past 10 years.
The first choice goalkeeper for Lille football club recently got stripped of his captaincy by super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh.
A disagreement between Enyeama and Oliseh has sparked a row in which the goalie was forced out of the Eagles camp. Although the NFF later intervened, Enyeama took to Instagram to announce that he is retiring from the Super Eagles team.
In his own words, As a coach I have looked at the team and I have looked at Nigeria going forward. We need a captain who will think of staying with Nigeria for several years to come, who is regularly in the front. And Ahmed Musa did a great job for us in Tanzania under very difficult circumstance. He is a very responsible player and he is the captain of the team. So he is the captain of the team, there is no question of a tussle.
āI have fought a good fight for more than 13years.I have finished my course,I have kept the faith and sang the anthem with passion.henceforth, there is laid for me a crown which only GOD can reward me for my 13years of national services.God bless Nigeria. From henceforth I am no more the captain of the Nigerian senior football team. I am no more the goalie of the team. I am out of the team. I am no more available for international duties. I want to say thank you to every Nigerian fan and supporter world wide.its been the most trying period of my life but I know that Nigerian are there for me and God is with me.God bless Nigeria. #Endofanera.
