Turkey is set to step up its aerial attacks inside Syria, targeting ISIS strongholds. This comes after a deadly attack in the border town of Suruc.
This marks a change in Turkey’s former position towards ISIS which was mild indifference to a military approach to the fundamentalist group. However, Turkey says that areas cleared of ISIL fighters will be termed as safe zones for civilians.
Turkey is also set to target Kurdish PKK militants in Iraq even as more individuals with links to terrorist groups are rounded up daily-with the number of arrests estimated at 500 so far.
The change in the government’s approach is thought to be as a result of public dissatisfaction with the government’s indifference.
