Tito Da Fire is speaking on Payola via his Twitter account. The OAP tweeting to his 16,000 followers via @TitoDaFire took a least travelled road to defend OAPs taking payola from artistes.
Interesting to note that Tito Da Fire, born Uduak Tito has been on radio for over fifteen years as a presenter of Fanta FunTime in 1998 to host of one of the most listened to radio show on RayPower100.5 FM before he moved on to be the Presenter for the Sponsored and syndicated sport show on various Nigerian radio.
‘Anything that is worth (it), is worth paying for,’ Tito Da Fire shoots!
Tito is credited to have contributed in launching several music and broadcasting careers, such as MI as he was the first OAP who started playing MI’s first major breakout single on Radio in Lagos as well as Djinee’s Ego which the later confirms.
Continuing in his tweet updates, The radio OAP who has interviewed the likes of Usher Raymond in 2002 and Shaggy in 2003 went on to say:
“why should he (OAP) play your joint outta hundreds coming every day?”
In another tweet, he said: “yeah i’ve been on both sides of the divide and I know why”
as he started his rant with: “it ain’t a crime thing paying a dj or OAP to play your song”
Interestingly, Tito Da Fire doubles as an artiste – mentored by Daniel Wilson at the age of 17 – where he scored a hit with the ‘Majekaja’ song and he has worked with a number of top Nigerian acts including M.I. Abaga Harrysong, Mo’Cheedah, Jaywon, LKT and OJB Jezreel to mention a few.
The singer is currently mentoring a new act known as IG Flamez, let’s see if he would be parting with payola to get his new act upcoming single ‘Uwese’ some airplay.
