The Super Eagles of Nigeria will not feature in the Gabon 2017 African Cup of Nations after a disappointing loss to Egypt in Alexandria on Tuesday night.
The Super Eagles went into the encounter knowing that only a win would keep qualification hopes alive after Chad dropped out of the Qualifying race. The Pharaohs of Egypt had done well to snatch a draw at the death at the Kaduna stadium and in the light of Chad dropping out, the 1-1 result in Nigeria looked even better for them.
Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia opted to leave Iheanacho, Simon Moses and Elderson Echiejile on the bench and it turned out to be his undoing as the Eagles looked uncertain in defence and never effectively transitioned from defense to attack.
Ahmed Musa was perhaps the worst performer on Tuesday night as the Pharaohs got a goal in the 65th minute to seal up what was in truth a shabby showing.
