Big Boycott: Drake, Kanye, Frank Ocean and Bieber would be MIA this year’s Grammys
Grammys is undoubtedly the most prestigious music award world over, but Kanye, Drake and a couple of other stars won’t be attending the Grammys come February 12 , here is why.
The feud started when Frank Ocean who seems to be everyone’s favourite for album of the year didn’t bother submitting his album “Blonde” for consideration. He claims the institution has fails to represent black musicians.
‘That institution certainly has nostalgic importance. It just doesn’t seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down,’ He told New York Times in an interview in November. ‘I think the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated. I’d rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys than sit there in the audience.‘
Kanye West who’s got 8 nominations this year and 21 Grammys to his name, thinks the award is racist. Stating that he never wins when he is nominated against a white musician.
Justin Bieber plans to be somewhere else even with 4 nominations. He considers Grammys irrelevant and bias to young singers.
Drake has 8 nomination but also doesn’t plan to attend. He is likely to be on tour in Europe.
