Preparations for this year’s Headies awards are in top gear with organizers making major announcements like the venue, date and the awards categories. I’m sure each nominee has an idea on who he or she is battling with.
We at olorisupergal.com take a look at the major categories of the awards, analyse it and give our own prediction of the winners before the D-Day, December 30.
We start with the video of the year. A category that gives credence and credit to the most exciting and creative video in the year under review. Video directors go home with the plaque in this category. And the videos considered for this year’s awards are,
Simi’s Jamb Question directed by Mex, Seyi Shay’s Crazy directed by Meji Alabi, The Sound – Davido featuring Uhuru & DJ Buckz directed by Sesan, Reekado Banks’ Katapot directed by Unlimited LA and Solid Star featuring Tiwa Savage – Baby Jollof directed by Clarence Peters.
These are creative videos by great artistes and directors, Simi’s Jamb Question was classic and Falz complimented her well in a typical ancient Ibadan location. It doesn’t get more traditional and real the choice of the set was amazing.
Music fans will not forget easily the famous Seyi Shay’s grabbing of Wizkid’s crotch in ‘Crazy Video, it was a lovely concept and nice costume by Meji Alabi with some scary bends and artistic excitements.
How about that Davido’s famous sky dive on ‘The Sound’ video? Well, his management confirmed that the diving was real and not some camera magic. Kudos to Sesan for that.
Katapot by Mavin star, Reekado was a true depiction of the song , brilliant enactment of the lyrics in the video. We feel Unlimited LA deserves a commendation for that. But Reekado suffered too in the video his lovely white attire was drenched with dirt.
Baby Jollof was Tiwa Savage’s last effort before she went on her pregnancy sabbatical this made the Solid Star’s track a delight for fans who long to see their beloved Tiwa. Clarence Peters did a marvellous job in the video as Tiwa lighted it up with her beauty.
Our decision:
We feel the screening committee did a wonderful job in this category, it is a close one between Katapot and Crazy but we give it to Crazy for its artistic ingenuity.
