One of Nigeria’s most inconspicuous governors is without a doubt Martins Elechi. There’s no doubt in my mind that many people would be hard pressed to recognize a picture of him.
He has been forced to the limelight in recent times by a bid by the Ebonyi state House of Assembly to impeach him. 15 members of the House of assembly reportedly served the governor with a notice of impeachment.
9 members of the House of the assembly however have come to the governor’s rescue and asserted that the 15 lawmakers do not constitute the constitutional provision of 2/3 majority required to impeach the governor.
The move to impeach the governor is on the alleged basis of corruption and gross misconduct. The Ebonyi house of assembly had set up a committee earlier to investigate the allegations brought against the governor. 7
The Ebonyi state House of assembly is made up of 24 members and 16 members constitute a 2/3 majority.
