The death toll at a stampede in Saudi Arabia has been officially confirmed as 769. Last week thursday, just shortly after the “stoning the devil” ritual, a stampede ensued, with people trapped as two of the gates to the area were closed.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed that 54 casualties of the tragedy were Nigerians.
The Chairman of NAHCON, Mr Abdullahi Mohammed said that the 54 Nigerians were from 15 states listed as Bauchi, Borno, Zamfara, Cross River, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Sokoto, Taraba and Yobe.
