Beyond The Headlines: Whitney Houston
Monday 23 February at 7.10pm
Long before a television show assumed the moniker, Whitney Houston was “The Voice.” Her model looks were only surpassed by her God-given, multi-octave instrument—one that needed no auto-tune, no enhancement, and one that dominated the music charts in the late 80s and early 90s. That voice would ultimately earn her multiple Grammys and sell millions of records. But by the time of her sudden and tragic death at the age of 48, her legendary instrument—along with her once angelic image—had suffered, ravaged by drugs, erratic behavior, a tumultuous marriage and years of hard living. Beyond the Headlines: Whitney Houston takes a look at the rapid rise and tragic downfall of the singularly gifted and legendary singer, featuring candid insights from industry insiders as well as friends and colleagues who knew and loved her.
Bobby Brown: Remembering Whitney
Sunday 22 February at 7.10pm
Bobby Brown: Remembering Whitney is a raw, fascinating interview with the man who arguably knew the legendary singer best: her former husband Bobby Brown. Sitting down with Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson, Brown opens up about the 15 years he spent with Whitney Houston and no topic is off limits. The drugs, the infidelities, the fights, the passion, the love they shared, and the demons that tore them apart—Bobby Brown talks about it all.
Lifetime Original Movie: Steel Magnolias
Saturday 21 February at 8pm
It’s hard to believe that any remake could be an improvement on a film that originally starred Dolly Parton, but this contemporary retelling of the 1989 classic, Steel Magnolias could just be the exception that proves the rule. With an all-star, all African-American cast including Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, Condola Rashad and Adepero Oduye, this version promises to rip your heart out, grind it into the floor with its boot heel and then spit on it just like the original.
