Nigerian football legend, Daniel Amokachi and popular fashion designer, Lanre da Silva have set the Nigerian social media space alight as they spar on the superiority of their passions over the other.
The hashtags #GoFootball and #GoFashion have gone viral on social media as fans of both people and their crafts have been proclaiming their support as much as possible.
Ms Silva had started the debate in a recent interview on Channels Television when she dismissed football, saying fashion was the next big thing.
Amokachi, a former Nigerian international nicknamed “The Bull” for his physical style of play and goal scoring exploits in his playing days, responded in full force on Twitter and on Brilla FM’s Hard Tackle show days after.
According to him, “Who knows Lanre Da Silva? But everyone knows Okocha, Kanu and the big footballers. It is not what Ronaldo puts on that makes people pay attention to him, it is what goes on the field for 90mins that makes people respect him.”
He also slammed fashion saying, “It will take decades for fashion to meet football.”
The argument on #GoFashion vs #GoFootball continues across Nigeria as exponents of both sectors continue to defend their passion and fuelling an even more intense discussion on the merits of both.
